Blower Door Test is a must-have procedure for construction in many European countries.
Blower Door Test allows you to identify problematic areas in the construction and insulation of the house. And thus contributes to their elimination. Otherwise, you may get a home with characteristics that do not meet the project's design calculations, which will result in discomfort for residents and excessive energy costs for heating and cooling the premises.
Equipment for the test
For the test, the following equipment is required: fan air vents, controller with sensors for measuring operating parameters and professional software, smoke generator and a set for sealing the technological openings of the house.
Testing process
The air vents in which the fan is mounted are located in the doorway. All ventilation and smoke ducts are closed tightly. Installation is enabled. Upon start-up, a high pressure zone (approximately 50 Pa) is created in the room. You can also reverse the process by reducing the pressure of the room. At this time, the sensors capture the amount of air that goes out of the house uncontrollably, or vice versa - seeps into the room. This is how the "problem spots" of your home's tightness are revealed.

During the cold season, during the Blower Door Test, you can see uncontrolled air leaks using the imager. Smoke generators are used in the warm season. The places from which the smoke leaks indicate sealing problems.
